Our Core Values
- SEM programs and activities are client-oriented.
- SEM believes that education, both individually and communally, is the path out of poverty.
- SEM believes that African American history and culture are vital in the formation of the self worth of African Americans and others who are oppressed.
- SEM believes that each participant has worth and is to be respected no matter what their status appears as long as they are willing to work.
- SEM staff will work with those who are willing to work to develop their potential.
- SEM will be honest in all dealings with clients in promoting the program, assessing client ability, attendance, and with client representatives.

The SEM Story
SEM began in 1990 by listening to low-income persons identify their economic and social needs combined with their grassroots wisdom on how to solve their problems.
